DRY NEEDLING
Dry needling is a form of therapy that involves the use of thin, solid needles to target trigger points in the muscles / connective tissues to treat musculoskeletal pain and movement issues. It is a technique used by trained healthcare professionals such as Physical therapists, Chiropractors, and Acupuncturists to relieve pain and improve muscle function.
The technique involves inserting the needles into/ near the trigger points or knots in the muscles, which are believed to be responsible for pain, discomfort, and restricted movement. The needles are inserted without any medication or injection, hence the term "dry" needling.
Dry needling is based on the theory that stimulating the trigger points can activate the body's natural healing response and release tension in the muscles and connective tissues.
Dry needling can be used to treat a variety of conditions, including: -
Back pain
Neck pain
Headaches
Joint pain
Muscle strains
Temporomandibular joint dysfunctions,
Post herpetic neuralgia,
Night cramps
and Tendonitis
It is also commonly used by athletes to enhance their performance and prevent injuries.
The number of treatments needed depends on the severity and duration of the condition. Some patients may experience immediate relief after the first treatment, while others may require multiple sessions over several weeks or months.
It is important to note that dry needling is not a stand-alone treatment and should be used in combination with other therapies such as exercise, stretching, and manual therapy.
In conclusion, dry needling is a safe and effective therapy that can help alleviate pain and improve muscle function. It is a useful tool and can be a valuable addition to a comprehensive treatment plan.
TAPING
Taping is one of the tools in Revital Rehabilitation Program used by our Physiotherapists to relieve both acute /chronic pain, and to support the structures to facilitate healing. Taping has been proven significantly in providing support, decrease inflammation, decrease pain and improve overall muscle performance.
Types of taping:
Supportive Tape- Athletic taping & McConnell taping (Leuko tape).
Corrective Tape- Kinesiology taping or k-taping
Compressive Tape- Coban taping.
Intended Purpose and Effect of Taping Techniques
The tape is commonly used by physiotherapists to:
relieve your pain.
improve joint stability.
enhance athlete confidence.
prevent injury/ reduce injury recurrence.
inhibit muscle action.
facilitate muscle action.
correct faulty biomechanics and enhance proprioception.
compress in the presence of edema or lymphatic drainage.
Aims of Taping:
Tape may be used to:
Stabilize or support an injury.
Relieve pain by de-loading vulnerable or painful structures.
Facilitate normal movement, muscle action, or postural patterns.
Who all can benefit.
- Those whose professions involve hard physical labour and repetitive movements (construction workers, factory workers, gardeners, mechanics, miners, secretaries, etc.)
- People who suffer the after-effects of bad posture.
-
People who sit and work at a desk for long periods every day, or who have sedentary lifestyles.
- People suffering from joint, muscle, or tendon injuries of any kind, whether due to disease or accidents.
- Athletes and other physically active people, including cyclists, golfers, joggers, and other exercise enthusiasts or those involved in sports.
- Lymphedema patients.
